Laura, the host, tells me that this Saturday will be the last time Bats in the Belfry airs in its Saturday time slot. Starting this Monday, June 2nd, it will be on Mondays 8-10pm.
Part of the point of posting this is to let y'all know about this show if you didn't know about it, so if you like goth music you can start listening, and to publicize the time change so people don't think it has been cancelled and stop listening. But I also am a bit dismayed that it has been moved. It's not that Monday 8-10 is inherently a worse time than Saturday 6-8, but this is a show that has been in a consistent time slot for many years, and has a very wide listenership. I've been a college radio General Manager and Program Director, produced several specialty radio shows, and DJ'ed thousands of hours. I know that one of the worst things you can do in college radio is to move a show like this. Sometimes the host needs to change time slot, or there's some other equally compelling reason, but more often, this sort of thing happens when station management simply doesn't get what they're doing, and I'm worried that is what happened here. I asked Laura about it but she doesn't know why her show is being moved, and she asked them not to move it.
So, I just wrote an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to ask about it. At the least, even if they do have a compelling reason to move the show, I'd like them to know that people care. And if they don't have such a reason, perhaps hearing from listeners might get them to reconsider. I'm inviting anyone else who cares to write them an email as well. Be polite, and don't assume you know why they made their decision, but express concern that they're moving a show with a long history, and ask why they decided to do it.
