Falcon Ridge ticket, save $30

One extra ticket to Falcon Ridge, full festival + camping, at the early bird price of $110 (if you get one at the gate, it's $140), if you can pick up from me in Central Square this evening or tomorrow morning/midday, or if you're somewhere convenient I can drop it off on the way tomorrow (Cambridge, Somerville, Newton, Waltham, etc. on the way from here to Falcon Ridge).

I've also offerred this ticket elsewhere, so first comment here gets it if you provide enough information such that I can get the ticket to you and the money from you today/tomorrow, unless I get an email from someone claiming it first.

the folk process

"My dad used to steal tunes from other people and write new words for them. People called it stealing, and all sorts of other bad words. Until Pete Seeger came along, and gave it a name: the folk process."
-- Arlo Guthrie at Falcon Ridge this evening

A couple of days earlier at the same festival, a bluegrass band from Georgia started introducing a rearranged cover they were about to do with,
"This is a song we first heard on YouTube"

How is the Internet affecting the "folk process"?

Falcon Ridge early ticket special

Falcon Ridge Folk Festival's annual winter special ticket sale is on. $85 for 3-day camping tickets, until they run out. They're only selling 400 at this price. Regular advance ticket sales start on March 15th (probably at around $100 for "early bird", though I'm not sure). If you know you're going to Falcon Ridge this year, get one now. If you think you're probably going, get one, and if you end up not going, you'll have an easy time selling it for this price if you remember to do it in advance.

Falcon Ridge artists teaser

The Falcon Ridge people sent out an email that includes a brief list of some of the artists who will be playing this year. It's a very partial list, there will be lots more artists, but I'm particularly excited to see the Arrogant Worms on it!! I think they're the funniest group in music today, at least that I know of - they make me laugh more than DaVinci's Notebook, the Austin Lounge Lizards, Dry Branch Fire Squad, or any other group I can think of. And they're a crusty old band holed up in their native Novia Scotia, unwilling to make a lot of trips down to the US unless they can be well paid for the effort, so I hardly ever get to see them. I made a trek down to Allentown PA to see a show they did with EFO a few years ago, so them alone are reason enough to go to Falcon Ridge in my opinion (not that I ever considered not going this year :)

Other bands on the short preliminary list for FRFF 2005 include regular favorites Dar Williams, Eddie From Ohio, Tracy Grammer, The Kennedys, and The Nields, a few interesting groups that have played recent years and did well on the survey such as Railroad Earth and Brave Combo, and a few other exiting newcomers - such as Fruit!.

Here's the relevant snippet from the email:
5 - FINAL FRFF TIDBITS - A web update is in the works with all 05 tix prices, deadlines, ordering info, list of performers booked to date, that includes Dar, Nields, EFO, L&N, Modern Man, Arrogant Worms, Crooked Still, The Kennedys, Eliza Gilkyson, Paul & Storm, Redbird, Fruit, Railroad Earth, Tracy Grammer, Clayfoot Strutters, Brave Combo, Nightingale, more to come. Info on our May Preview Tour featuring Meg Hutchinson, LisaBeth Weber w/Maggie Marshall, Alastair Moock & Ned Massey coming. AND ANNOUNCING our very first FRFF Fan Club Cruise happening this fall, 5 night concert cruise, NYC to Nova Scotia, Sept 5-10 with Nerissa & Katryna Nields, The Kennedys and Susan Werner. We will have more details and ordering info for you, meanwhile you can get all of that at www.fanclubcruises.com.

Falcon Ridge early bird deadline

If you're planning to go to Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and don't have a ticket yet, buy it now! Today, May 15th, is the "early bird" price deadline. 4 day passes all go up by $10 after today. You can still buy advance tickets until July 1st, if you miss that date, you'll have to buy them at the festival, where they're another $20 more. But if you know you're going, buy today and save $10 off the regular advance ticket rate. You can buy tickets by mail, phone, or web.

Among the artists performing at this year's Falcon Ridge are: Eddie From Ohio, Brave Combo, Vance Gilbert, the Nields sisters, Richard Shindell, Girlyman, Erin McKeown, Sonia / disappear fear, Ellis Paul, and Jake Armerding. The dance stage artists have not yet been announced, but I see Paul Rosenberg and Ralph Sweet on the performer schedule so I assume they'll also be calling dances.

Falcon Ridge

Tomorrow I am heading out to Hillsdale NY to camp out for five days at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. I wish I had time to write all about it but I'm running behind on things I need to do before I leave. I'll just say that I went for the first time in 1996 and haven't missed it any year since, and I intend to keep going every year for as long as I am able. You can read more about it at http://www.falconridgefolk.com/

There's also a [info]falconridge community here on LiveJournal.
And if you're going and wondering what to bring: http://cos.polyamory.org/frfflist.html
